Game show all over the town...

Richard Gomez has already proven his worth as an actor by the number of recognitions he has received from different award-giving bodies. However, no matter how established his name is in the industry now, Richard does not stop trying new things.

Next month, TV viewers will see a different Goma, Richard's common name in showbiz, as he serves as the host of the popular game show called Family Feud.

In a short interview with PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) after the 20 Questions with Ricky Lo at St. Paul's University on Pedro Gil, Manila, yesterday, September 18, Richard related his feelings about his new show on GMA-7.

"It's gonna be my first game show and I'm very excited about it," he told PEP. "I look forward to doing the show together with different families who will pass the audition."

The former matinee idol said that he has long wanted to host a game show. So, when he found out that his home network got the franchise of Family Feud, he auditioned for the job.

Contrary to what people think, Richard said that GMA Network did not handpick him. "Alam mo, maraming kaming nag-audition. You really have to audition for that part. Ang dami nang nag-audition, siguro I'm the lucky one na nakita nila doon."

He continued, "I've been ready for that show. I've been longing to do a game show and I've been telling my GMA bosses, ‘One day, I wanna do it.' Then, ang sabi nila, ‘Family Feud,' and ito na."

This is not the first time for Richard to host a show, but he says that it will be different from his first hosting job in the defunct entertainment talk show S-Files since Family Feud is a game show.

So, how is he preparing for it?

"May mga templates naman sila roon and I get to watch the past shows, how they do it. As a kid growing up, we always get to watch Family Feud. So, more or less, I know how to play the game."

Richard will start taping for Family Feud in the next two weeks. He also confirmed reports saying that the high-rating show of Arnell Ignacio called GoBingo will soon say goodbye to its viewers. "Ang start noon, after GoBingo," ended Richard.

Continuing GMA-7's tradition of bringing non-stop fun and surprises to its televiewers; Family Feud, the longest-running and most popular game show worldwide, is about to invade primetime TV as the network opens its fourth quarter season.

Family Feud, a daily half-hour game show, will be hosted by the epitome of every woman’s description of "tall, dark and handsome" -- none other than all-time favorite versatile movie actor, the original Adonis of Philippine showbiz, Richard Gomez.

Mondays to Fridays, Family Feud will have two participating families of four going head-to-head as they try to determine the seven top answers based on what the "survey said" in polls conducted with 100 people. Celebrity families will be featured every Monday while non-celebrity families will try to outsmart each other from Tuesday to Friday.

The game begins with the captains of both teams facing off at the lock-out desk near the game master to see which family will gain control of the particular question. An answer is considered correct if it is one of the concealed answers on the game board. If the captain’s answer earns the higher points, his/her family gets the chance to play first every round throughout the entire game. Three strikes and the family gives up control of the board, and the competing family gets a chance to steal the bank by naming just one answer that’s not yet revealed on the board. Richard then goes to the podium of the entire family as they confer before giving their final answer. The first answer is always the final answer.

The same mechanics apply for the succeeding rounds, with the exception of doubled points for Round 3 and tripled points for Round 4. The family with 300 points or more, moves on to the Fast Money round where they may win the jackpot prize of as much as P150,000.

In Fast Money, two representatives of the winning family must separately try to name the most popular answers to five survey questions in 20 and 25 seconds, respectively. If the total combined score of their answers reach at least 200 points, they win the jackpot. If not, they get a consolation of P50,000 and return the next day as the defending champions, to have another chance at the jackpot which will have increased to P250,000.

The defending family has a maximum of four lucky tries at the jackpot, after which they yield the crown to a new champion.

Family Feud is all about points, winning streaks, and top answers. Which family will emerge as the winner at the end of the game to take home the jackpot? Who will pass, play, steal or strike? Well, the family that plays together -- definitely wins together!

Kakasa Ka Ba Sa Grade 5? (Are You Tough Enough for Grade 5) is the Philippine version of Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader? It started airing the show on October 27, 2007 on GMA Network. It is hosted by singer, actor, and comedian Janno Gibbs, who is known in the show as the "Chairman of the Blackboard."

The show is announced under the proposed title Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?: Pinoy Edition as early as August after the network acquired the format from Mark Burnett International. This acquisition came as sister network Q started airing the original US version. The present title of the Philippine version came later. Both this show and the original version are airing concurrently; the original on Thursdays and this Filipino version on Saturdays.

The ten questions in each game are categorized into several general subjects based on Philippine primary school curriculum which is also approved by the Department of Education (which also checks the questions for the show). The subjects are:

• English
• Science
• Mathematics
• Filipino
• Sibika at Kultura (Civics and Culture) for Grades 1 to 3 and HEKASI or Heograpiya, Kasaysayan at Sibika (Geography, History, and Civics) for Grades 4 and 5
• Edukasyong Pangtahanan (Home Economics)
• M.A.P.E. (Music, Arts and Physical Education)

Generally, each category is written as "Grade number and subject". Though the show itself is mostly in Filipino, questions are generally in English, except Filipino, Civics, and Home Economics questions which are in Filipino, as these three subjects are all taught in Filipino in most schools in the Philippines.
